John was previously Group Finance Director of MyTravel Group plc (“MyTravel”). John joined the Board of MyTravel in 2003 when the market capitalisation of the Company had fallen to £25 million following two years of difficult trading. John and the management team oversaw a series of asset sales to provide necessary liquidity and negotiated a complex £800 million debt for equity restructuring when the accounting position was stabilised. The Company returned to profitability in 2006 and in February 2007 negotiated a reverse take over with Thomas Cook. When announced, the industry transforming transaction resulted in a 35% share price increase, giving MyTravel a market capitalisation of £1.4 billion.
From 1995 to 2003, John was Chief Financial Officer at telecoms company Equant NV helping to manage the world’s largest data network with employees in over 100 countries. From 1986 to 1995 John held senior financial and management positions at BT.
