TerreStar chooses Intec for integrated billing, mediation and activation solution to support innovative next generation all-IP 4G network

2007 Press Releases

  • Intec OSS/BSS applications play key role in new operator’s IMS architecture deployment and wholesale operations

Atlanta/London, 11 October, 2007 – Intec announced today that TerreStar Networks Inc. (TerreStar), a subsidiary of TerreStar Corporation (NASDAQ: TSTR), has selected Intec’s integrated OSS/BSS suite, including Intec Convergent Billing, Intec Mediation and Intec Activation, to support its innovative all-IP 4G communications network offering. Scheduled for launch in 2008, TerreStar's next generation all-IP mobile communications network will combine satellite and terrestrial communications to provide universal access and tailored applications throughout North America over conventional wireless devices. The depth and breadth of capabilities in Intec’s integrated, convergent OSS/BSS suite were important factors for TerreStar, as it will enable flexible commercial offerings to customers.

"By combining an all-IP mobile communications network with an integrated next-generation satellite and terrestrial system, we plan to significantly enhance the selection of mobile communications options available in the market, and revolutionize how North America stays connected," said Michael J. Reedy, Chief Operating Officer of TerreStar. “We've set a high bar for ourselves, and we do the same for our suppliers to ensure that we are able to meet our customers' needs when our services are launched. Intec offered us an integrated suite of world-class OSS/BSS proven in many of the world’s largest carriers, particularly those operating convergent, next-generation wireless and IP networks.”

TerreStar is creating a new category of service: customer branded, next generation services delivered over the first all IP-enabled mobile communications network. TerreStar plans to build, own and operate North America's first 4G, integrated mobile satellite and terrestrial communications network that will provide universal access and tailored applications throughout North America using conventional wireless devices. TerreStar expects to be the first to offer customer-designed products and applications over a fully-optimized 4G IP network that leverages the IP Multimedia System (IMS) architecture guidelines as outlined by 3GPP. Applications for the TerreStar network will include new product services and control systems for homeland defense and public safety communities, wireless carriers, rural and under-served communities and multiple enterprise verticals.

Intec’s applications will become integral components of TerreStar’s IMS architecture as Intec supports a comprehensive IMS charging capability that extends to a full customer care and billing environment, including service activation and advanced customer management. These capabilities will be especially important for TerreStar’s non-telco customers that may not have their own back office support systems. TerreStar’s channel partners and first responder customers will be able to configure and provision users, devices, and services on the TerreStar network through access to TerreStar’s Intec-enabled back office.

“This is a very exciting project to be involved in, and we are honored that a technically innovative customer like TerreStar has recognized the capabilities of Intec’s integrated OSS/BSS product set,” said Intec’s managing director for North America, Fred Brott. “Our proven performance in demanding IP applications, outstanding reliability and IMS-capable technology are all key benefits for TerreStar in its ambitious roll out plans.”
